Happy Friday Ladies (and Gentlemen)! We hope your week was beautiful, and if it wasn’t then perhaps trying out these recipes this weekend will send it back in the right direction! Many of the products that nail salons use are effective but full of nasty chemicals. What’s a girl to do? Abandon all nail care? We think that isn’t really an option. Instead try out these simple, natural DIY recipes to give yourself a manicure at home.

Follow it up with some eco-friendly ZOYA polish and your hands will be good to go! So here are the recipes 🙂

Natural Cuticle Softener

  • Apple Cider Vinegar – yup that’s all you need. Soak your nails in undiluted apple cider vinegar for a few minutes and then clean up the cuticle bed with a nail pusher. Don’t like the smell of apple cider vinegar? Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil… or just follow this up with a delicious smelling hand scrub!

Natural Nail Strengthening Soak

  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tbs honey

Just mix the ingredients in a small bowl and soak your nails in it for 10-15 minutes. Follow up with cuticle oil. We love using apricot or almond oil as cuticle oil!

Natural Apricot Hand Scrub

  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tbs lemon juice

  • 2 tbs apricot oil

Combine the ingredients in a bowl and then massage into your hands! Rinse with warm water and dry with a clean towel! Try not to eat this delicious scrub!

Have you ever given yourself a complete manicure at home? Or do you usually just head to the salon?

Rock Safer Nail Polish Part II

It wasn’t long ago that we gushed over Mineral Fusion’s new safer nail lacquer, and it’s not that we have a short attention span—we just feel compelled to search out other safe polish alternatives. So this week we must confess our love for Zoya’s hot neon nail shades! From left to right we are obsessing over shades Mitzi, Phoebe, and Lolly!

If neon isn’t your thing, don’t fret—Zoya has over 300 shades to choose from. Zoya polish is long-wearing and free of toluene, formaldehyde, DBP (phthalates) and camphor—Yay! You can pick up a bottle of the sweet lacquer at Whole Foods, Ulta, and several other beauty stores. At $8 a bottle what’s the harm in trying a bold neon hue?

Have you used Zoya polish before? If so let us know what you think!

Rock Safer Polish This Summer: Mineral Fusion Nail Lacquer

One day while cruising the beauty aisles at Whole Foods—because a girl has to do more than grocery shop while running errands—I came across a new safer and cruelty-free nail polish by Mineral Fusion. Minerals on a mission. Seemed like it could be a great match for my mission to switch to safer cosmetics. After careful observation I decided to purchase the Radiant Amber color. It’s a bold orange with some gold shimmer to it—perfect for summer! The colors are bold, the lacquer goes on smooth and dries beautifully. I’m definitely taking this polish with me to the salon (I don’t do the best job painting my nails myself :)). Mineral Fusion’s nail lacquer is a great deal at $7.99 a bottle and is available at Whole Foods (it’s a fairly new product so it isn’t up on their website yet). AND If you go to their Facebook page, and like them, you can get a $3.00 coupon to try their products! What nail polish are you rocking this summer?
